ZYN is one of the most widely known nicotine pouch brands in the world, and for many people it is the first brand they try. The range looks simple, but between mini and slim formats, numbered strength levels and dozens of flavours it is easy to lose track. This guide explains how the ZYN range is organised, how to read the strength on the can and how ZYN differs from VELO.

In short: ZYN makes tobacco-free nicotine pouches in mini and slim formats. Strength is shown with dots on the lid and, for the products in our shop, as a level from S1 to S6 in the product name. Mint is the core of the range, complemented by fruit, liquorice and coffee flavours.

What is ZYN?

ZYN is a nicotine pouch brand that originates from Swedish Match, the Swedish company known for its snus, which has been part of Philip Morris International since 2022. ZYN pouches contain no tobacco leaf. The filling consists of plant fibres, nicotine, flavourings and a few auxiliary ingredients. If you want to understand the category first, read what are nicotine pouches.

Many people call ZYN "ZYN snus". Strictly speaking, ZYN is not snus, because snus contains tobacco. The difference is explained in snus vs nicotine pouches.

ZYN formats: mini and slim

  • ZYN Mini – a small, short pouch that is very discreet under the lip. Examples in our shop are Spearmint Mini, Apple Mint Mini, Black Cherry Mini, Black Licorice Mini, Peach Mini and Coffee Mini.
  • ZYN Slim – a long, narrow pouch that is the most common ZYN format today. Examples are Cool Mint Slim, Spearmint Slim, Red Fruits Slim, Cactus Spice Slim, Lemon Spritz Slim and Watermelon Mint Slim.

The format affects comfort and how the pouch feels, not its strength. Both mini and slim pouches are available at several strength levels. More about formats is in our overview of pouch types.

ZYN strength levels

ZYN shows strength with dots on the lid: the more filled dots, the stronger the pouch within the ZYN range. In our shop, ZYN products also carry a level from S1 to S6 in the product name, and some older lines use words such as "Normal", "Strong" or "Extra Strong" instead. Higher numbers mean a stronger pouch within ZYN. These levels are not comparable with the strength labels of other brands.

The exact nicotine content is stated on every product page and on the can, in mg per pouch or mg per gram. Our guide to snus strengths explains the two units, and the nicotine calculator converts between them.

ZYN flavours

ZYN is known above all for its mint range, which covers everything from gentle to very cooling. The flavours currently in our shop fall into these families:

Flavour family ZYN examples
Mint Cool Mint, Spearmint, Gentle Mint, Apple Mint, Watermelon Mint, Blueberry Mint
Ice (extra cooling) Menthol Ice, Cool Mint Ice, Blackcurrant Ice
Fruit Red Fruits, Red Berry Fizz, Black Cherry, Peach, Citrus, Lemon Spritz
Liquorice Black Licorice, Violet Licorice
Something different Coffee, Cactus Spice

Availability changes regularly. The current selection, with all formats and levels, is always in our ZYN collection.

ZYN or VELO?

ZYN and VELO are the two brands compared most often. ZYN stands out with a consistent mint range and a clear numbered strength scale, while VELO offers more fruit and experimental flavours. A detailed side-by-side comparison is in ZYN vs VELO, and our VELO guide describes the other range in the same way as this article.

How to choose your ZYN

Pick the flavour family first, then the format, then check the strength level and the mg value on the product page. If you are new to nicotine pouches, read our beginner's guide first. How to place a pouch and how long to keep it in is explained in how to use snus correctly.

Nicotine is addictive. Nicotine pouches are intended only for adults aged 18 and over who already use nicotine.

How we work editorially

Every article on this site carries the name of the person who wrote it. If you want to know who stands behind a piece, the byline is the answer — not a general statement like this one.

Legal statements are checked against the national legislation they describe, and the date of that check is given in the article, because the rules in this category change several times a year. Health topics are written as general information, not as medical advice; where a question belongs to a doctor or a pharmacist, we say so. Research is named and reported with its uncertainty intact rather than compressed into a headline.

We keep the editorial side and the shop separate, and promotional content is labelled as such. We do not present nicotine pouches as a way to stop smoking or as a harmless product. Nicotine is addictive, and everything here is written for adults aged 18 and over. All our guides are organised by topic in the snus and nicotine pouch guide.
