VELO is one of the best-known nicotine pouch brands in Europe and one of the most searched. The range is large, the names change often and the strength labels are not obvious at first sight. This guide explains how the VELO range is organised: which formats exist, which flavour families you can choose from, how to read the strength on the can and where VELO differs from ZYN.
In short: VELO makes tobacco-free nicotine pouches in mini, slim and regular formats, with a strong focus on mint and fruit flavours. The strength is marked with dots on the lid, and the exact nicotine content of each product is listed on its product page.
What is VELO?
VELO is a nicotine pouch brand from British American Tobacco. In some markets the same products were previously sold under the name Lyft. Like all nicotine pouches, VELO pouches contain no tobacco leaf. The filling is made of plant fibres, nicotine, flavourings and a few auxiliary ingredients. If you want to know more about the category itself, start with what are nicotine pouches.
In everyday language VELO is often called "VELO snus". Strictly speaking it is not snus, because snus contains tobacco. The difference is explained in snus vs nicotine pouches.
VELO formats
The VELO range in our shop comes in three groups of formats:
- VELO Mini – small and discreet, for example Mini Purple Grape, Mini Tangy Lime, Wintery Watermelon Mini or Dark Cherry Mini.
- VELO Slim – long and narrow, for example Tropical Mango Slim, Mango Ice Slim, Blueberry Ice Slim, Guava Passionfruit Slim or Sour Lime Slim.
- Standard VELO – products without "Mini" or "Slim" in the name, such as Freezing Peppermint, Crispy Peppermint, Green Spearmint and Ruby Berry.
The format does not determine the strength. It mainly decides how the pouch feels under the lip. You can read more about formats in our overview of pouch types.
VELO flavours
VELO is best known for mint, but the fruit range has grown a lot. The flavours currently in our shop fall into these families:
| Flavour family | VELO examples |
|---|---|
| Peppermint | Freezing Peppermint, Crispy Peppermint, Peppermint Storm |
| Spearmint | Green Spearmint, Simply Spearmint |
| Berries and cherry | Ruby Berry, Blue Raspberry, Icy Cherry, Dark Cherry, Dark Blackcurrant |
| Tropical and citrus | Tropical Mango, Mango Ice, Guava Passionfruit, Orange Spark, Sour Lime, Tangy Lime |
| Other fruit | Purple Grape, Wintery Watermelon, Blueberry Ice |
| Something different | Salty Liquorice, Zesty Elderflower, Mango Flame, McLaren Spicy Papaya |
Names with "Ice", "Freezing" or "Icy" signal an extra cooling effect. Names with "Flame" or "Spicy" signal a warming, slightly spicy note. Availability changes regularly, so the current selection is always in our VELO collection.
VELO strength: how to read the can
VELO marks strength with dots on the lid: the more filled dots, the stronger the pouch within the VELO range. Some names add a hint, such as "Ultra", "Max" or "High Nic" for the stronger versions. These labels are only comparable within VELO, not with other brands. The exact nicotine content is given on each product page and on the can, in mg per pouch or mg per gram. Our guide to snus strengths explains the difference between the two units.
VELO also makes Zero versions without nicotine, for example Tropical Mango Zero, Purple Grape Zero and Bright Peppermint Zero. They are listed together with other nicotine-free products in our nicotine-free pouches collection.
VELO or ZYN?
VELO and ZYN are the two brands most often compared. In short: VELO has a wider choice of fruit and experimental flavours, while ZYN is known for a very consistent mint range and a clear numbered strength scale. Both offer slim and mini formats. A detailed side-by-side comparison is in ZYN vs VELO, and our ZYN guide covers the other side.
How to choose your VELO
Start with the flavour family you like, then choose the format, then check the strength on the product page. If you are new to nicotine pouches, read our beginner's guide first. How to place a pouch and how long to keep it in is explained in how to use snus correctly.
Nicotine is addictive. Nicotine pouches are intended only for adults aged 18 and over who already use nicotine.
